Ready to put your best face forward? Take a cue from me and update your headshot.

Your grandmother may have told you never to judge a book by its cover, but the truth is… visuals are (still) important in 2024. I’m a true believer in the power of using high-quality, current visuals to make a lasting impression on the interwebs. So this week, I took my own advice and am delighted to unveil my new headshot by Anthony Johnson Photography!

A Professional Headshot Matters in 2024

Let’s face it: first impressions count. Whether it’s on LinkedIn, your company website, or social media, your headshot is often the first thing people see. A professional headshot shows that you mean business and that you’re serious about your brand. It’s not just about looking good, it’s about conveying confidence, competence, and credibility.

Why I Took Down My Favorite But Outdated Selfie

Change is hard – and I understand how tempting it is to keep using your favorite selfie from a few years ago. But speaking from personal experience, using an outdated or casual photo did not send the message I was going for. I take my work seriously: I love helping smart people and great causes make a big impact online. I’m also not usually in front of the camera because my goal is to make you shine. So for my first year in business as Human Factor Digital, I kept the focus on the work. But the truth is, you should expect the same professionalism of me that I preach to you. So that great behind-the-scenes selfie from a high-profile project at a somewhat recent job before Human Factor Digital was born? Time to retire it. I’ve learned a lot since then, personally and professionally. What you observe of me, dear reader, should reflect that fact.

The Professional Headshot Difference

A great headshot demonstrates your professional growth from the selfie’d stage of startup business, and helps people recognize you offline. If you’ve ever seen someone on social media first, but found a disconnect between Instagram and reality… you know that filters can feel like false advertising. Which is never a great feeling. Enter the competent portrait photographer. Instead of relying on filters, a great photographer uses lighting, lenses, and the art of the pose to put your best foot forward. Feel awkward in front of the camera? A great photog will help you laugh and relax, and guide you towards a polished shot. And you’re still yourself, as you appear in real life.

Conclusion

I believe in this advice so much, I practiced what I preach and updated my headshot this week. And I’ll be going back through the rest of my digital presence in the coming weeks to roll out the new photo everywhere. I’m committed to quality and effective branding for Human Factor Digital AND for my clients. A headshot holds value in our modern world just like a handshake—making a great first impression every time. After all, humans are visual creatures. Human Factor Digital’s brand deserves the best, just like yours. Ready to put your best face forward? Take a cue from me and update your headshot. If you’re in Austin, I highly recommend Anthony.
