You Asked: Behind The Scenes With Human Factor Digital

February 15, 2025

Who runs Human Factor Digital? What’s our experience? We pull back the curtain and talk about what we do, who we help, and how we make digital tools work for small businesses.

Behind every great Human Factor Digital project is a solid strategy, years of experience, and (occasionally) a pair of googly eyes courtesy of Liberty, our intrepid office assistant. My name is Elisabeth, and Human Factor Digital is my little shop. This week, a message landed in my inbox that merits a public answer:

Hi! I need a new website and I’m interested in what you show and explain here. However, you offer a lot of services but there’s no info about the company—could you tell me a little more about your past experience(s) and who “we” is? – Ashley D.

Ashley, great question!

Past Experience

I’ve been designing graphics and building websites since 1998, diving into email marketing and communications in 2009, and managing projects since 2011. My background spans statewide advocacy, local small business marketing, and Texas government communications, and I’ve worn many hats in each arena. Over the years, my focus has sharpened on big-picture communications strategy—developing websites, managing brands, and making sure my clients have the training to use what we build as part of their day-to-day operations. My journey started in the late ’90s when I was making graphics in Corel Draw and setting up my first websites on GeoCities (we all start somewhere). Fast forward to the late 2000s, and I was managing statewide legislative advocacy email campaigns for Texas CASA. That experience really drove home the widespread need for affordable help at the intersection of IT and communications—where technology meets storytelling. From 2012 to 2018, I focused on state/local advocacy and small business projects, working hands-on with entrepreneurs and community initiatives. In 2018, I transitioned into state government communications, working on large-scale public sector projects at the Texas Veterans Commission (TVC)’s Fund for Veterans Assistance (FVA). At TVC, I shepherded quite a few projects from idea to reality, including the agency’s Grant-Funded Services Directory, strategizing and producing FVA’s 2022 PSA campaign, moderating FVA Advisory Committee Meetings involving applicants and grantees, and producing the promotional tour TVC now calls “Grants Across Texas” (including quickly pivoting in the COVID era from an in-person event series to virtual presentations). And in 2023, I came back to the private sector to set up Human Factor Digital. If you’re looking for my full resume, you can find me on LinkedIn.

The “We” In Human Factor Digital

Most of “our” work is done by me, but I do subcontract specialty work when clients need custom plugins, video production, or social media management. While I don’t handle everything in-house, I have a trusted network of talented specialists who help round out larger projects. Think of me as the general contractor for your digital presence—I’ll make sure you get the right (and reliable) people to bring your project to life.

Who’s A Good Fit?

I’ve found that my most successful projects happen when a client wants more than just a website that sits there. The best collaborations happen when businesses actively use their digital tools to grow and connect with their audience. And because I don’t carry the overhead of a larger agency, my pricing is designed to be a perfect fit for small to midsize businesses that want to do more but aren’t quite ready to hire a full-time communications team. Thanks for the great question, Ashley! If you’re curious about working together, I’d love to chat—just drop me a line or send me a LinkedIn message.
